Self-Forgiveness
To forgive
ourselves can feel like a challenging and even foreign idea.
It is not a naturally taught concept. Most of us incur so
much guilt and self-loathing as we grow up, and we have
experiences that do not necessarily contribute to our mental
health in a positive way. Our well-meaning parents and
others send us messages about ourselves that we internalize
and believe. But much of what we may learn and believe about
ourselves is not true. So as a result we may grow up feeling
pretty miserable about making mistakes, or hurting others,
or making bad choices, and creating habits that are not
healthy. But what if we could learn to forgive ourselves?
You see, I think that we each have a brilliant internal
light. We have the energy that is meant to make us feel
vital and alive and vibrant. But if we cannot forgive
ourselves for our perceived mistakes or the lies we tend to
believe about ourselves, then that light dims, sometimes to
the point that we are not even aware that it is there. But
it’s always been there, and never goes out.
So what if we could
look at life as if it were always a journey that was meant
to happen? Everything that occurs in our lives was meant to
be. These steps in the journey are our lessons, given so
that we may continue to grow and change and become aware of
our internal light, so we can spread this light to others. I
am not saying that it is OK to treat others wrongly or OK to
hate ourselves or make bad choices, but we can forgive
ourselves. Forgiveness is not condoning a behavior or
mistake but rather it’s a state of mind: a place we can go
to free ourselves from the anger or hurt or rage, and begin
to heal and find peace of mind. Perhaps we can say to
ourselves: “I forgive myself. I am not happy with how I feel
or how I have behaved, but hopefully it has helped me to
learn an important message or change to a healthier way of
life. I choose to let this go, so that I may move on and
live a better life.” We could then get more in touch with
our divine spark in whatever way that makes sense for each
of us.
Rabbi Karen Kedar writes:
God
thank-you for helping me see That each phase of my life
is perfect That I have arrived That I’ve always been
where I need to be Living perfect moments With your
help, I relinquish my need to judge Embrace my heart as
it beats, even as it bleeds Help me grow with love,
acceptance and curiosity Thank-you for lighting the
way For gently illuminating a path in the darkness Let
it now be and always be Yet another exquisite
phase For the crimes against myself, I am sorry For
all my slips and slides I forgive
myself

EMOTIONAL FREEDOM
TECHNIQUE WORKSHOP
The “magic” of Emotional Freedom Technique or EFT has been
remarkable in the healing process of our clients. This
technique has had many beginnings and been called by other
names, but it is Gary Craig who re-invented this technique
to make it easy and extremely effective. You see we all have
a white board that captures all the messages we were given
as we grew up. Some of these messages were positive and
others were negative. It is the negative messages that
interrupt our body’s energy system, creating symptoms such
as anxiety, depression, obsessions, addictions, physical
ailments, and just about anything else that keeps us from
living the life we were meant to enjoy. Blocks occur each
time an experience triggers an unpleasant memory from our
past. By simply tapping with our fingers on specific places
on our body, we can free up the energy that gets blocked.
Lynne will be holding a workshop at Circles of Wisdom in
Andover on November 19th, to introduce this remarkable
technique. To register for this two-hour introduction go to
